Syllabus
Theory
General – economic classification
of insects. Ecology and insect-pest management with reference to fruit, plantation
crops. Distribution, host range, bio-ecology, injury, integrated management of
important insect pests affecting tropical, sub-tropical and temperate fruits,
plantation, vegetable, ornamental, spices and condiments crops like citrus,
mango, grapevine, pomegranate, guava, fig, banana, papaya, custard apple, ber,
sapota, aonla, coconut, arecanut, cashew, apple, tea, coffee, brinjal, okra,
tomato, chilli, potato, sweet potato, cruciferous, cucurbitaceous, colocassia
and moringa, turmeric, ginger, onion, garlic, coriander, curry leaf, black
pepper, rose, gerbera and carnation.
Definition of Nematode and
Nematology, Characteristics of plant parasitic nematodes. Important symptoms
caused by nematodes with examples. Integrated Nematode Management.
Practical
Identification of different types
of damage. Identification and study of life cycle and seasonal history of
various insect pests attacking crops and their produce: Fruit Crops, Vegetable
Crops, Plantation, Spices and Condiments.
